Recent Travels in the UK

This is one of my favourite photographs I have taken over the last week.  It is a photograph of my sister with my two sons staring at the Tower Bridge in London.  Usually the focus should be on the landmarks of the place you visit, but for this one I wanted to capture the moment.  My sister, a fellow Third Culture Kid (TCK), lives a highly nomadic life as well.  She currently lives in DC working as sommelier though will be overseas again come the spring.  In my family we never really know when we will see eachother next or where in the world. So capturing this lovely moment of her with my sons at this age was so important.  I love to capture all the things that travelers and tourists take on the cameras but I equally like the people and moments for our visual memories.

I am looking forward to sharing our recent travels in the UK over the next several Travel Tuesday posts.  We spent a week in Snowdonia, Wales; two days in Notting Hill and throughout London, England; and will be going up to the place of my birth which is Oxford, England today.  So many places in a short time with family can be a bit overwhelming.  But for us we just took each day at a time and made sure savour each memory.

Q: How do you make the most of your short travels and trips?

  1. I adore that photo of her and the kids! xx

  2. What a lovely photo--I love how you focused on the people but we can still tell what they are looking at. I am a fan of the daytrip so to make the most of a short, short trip, I like to research a good place to eat, a fun/goofy/odd place to see, and a place that defines the area I am visiting. Thanks for hosting!

  3. I love the photo! Even as a reader you can get a sense of the meaning captured. Can't wait to follow along with all of the UK recaps :)

  4. such a lovely photo! it's so easy - especially when traveling - to tick off all the tourist things, but it's the people that make the place :)

  5. Gorgeous picture, Bonnie. I hope you had a great time on your travels over the past few weeks xx

  6. I love that photo of your sister and sons! I'm looking forward to reading your posts about your travels within the UK. I've never been, but would love to visit!

One of the ways I make the most of short visits is to maximize my time (get up early, usually earlier than I'd like, and get going for the day). I also like to explore all the options of what's available to do ahead of time, then narrow down my list to a few must-do activities or sights. Then, if I have any free time available, I've already seen what I wanted and I can be flexible!

  7. Oh love this photo - great capture :) can't wait to read about all your recent adventures :)

    Laura x

  8. This pic is just awesome! I always love to take pictures of people when I travel... even if they are just tourists, but I think that just belongs to travelling ;) Pictures just from a building can do everybody, but with people it's always unique ;)
And I just sent you an email about a blogging series I would like you to take part if you want :)

  9. Sweet! Thank you Sandra for the email, I would love to be involved and will get back to you shortly. Yes you are right, there are so many great travel shots, but with people it just makes the moment! x

  10. Thank you, I had to quickly sneak in and get it before anyone moved, but it was nice watching them together too. x

  11. Oh I love and hope you get to come to the UK one day too! Def, sounds like a great plan! We pretty much had no plans for our entire trip in Wales and London except knowing that there were a few places we def wanted to see. So it all became about how we felt and the weather and what would work best for that day. It ended up working out great. x

  12. Thank you Jade :) Had an amazing time. I am sad its over, but still on cloud nine off of everything that I'm not too sad because I have photos to look over.

  13. Indeed Betsy! Which def makes me love traveling with other people so I can get more people shots. x

  14. Thank you, i honestly think I should probably print this out for my sister at least because it would be a pretty wall art. x

  15. Your welcome and glad you enjoyed. I really love these travel tuesday posts. :) It so fun to research places before you go and then enjoy the day. :)

  16. I know I think she really likes it too. She does not get to see them that much so we try to make the most of every moment. x
