Travel Tuesday is here and since it is our first Tuesday of the month it means our themed post! November's prompt is 'relationships'. I love solo travel but I just as much appreciate the relationships I have when I travel with family and friends. On a recent trip to London with my visiting family we made the rush from where we were in Wales to get to the Portobello Road market. We were not sure we would make it in time and I am so glad that we did because we had a great time! While we were out I spotted with my camera this couple enjoying their relationship with a passionate kiss in the middle of Notting Hill. I had to recreate this romantic gesture with my husband and have shared the pair of kissing photos below.
I hope you will love the rest of these...there were just so many things to photograph and my eyes were on sensory overload. I loved all the silver and found the antiques and old cameras my favourite things to look at in the market. My sister, a level II sommelier enjoyed all the smells of the food stalls like the lush varieties of mushrooms. Even my sons found some interesting things to purchase while they were out exploring. If you have seen Notting Hill, the travel bookshop was in the blue 'Notting Hill' store front you see in the photographs. I definitely recommend making the point to go to this market when you are next in London and venture into Notting Hill. I still haven't been to this market, everyone talks about how fantastic it is though. I agree, once in a while traveling with other people can be fun, it means you get more people to experience things with.
ReplyDeleteYour post has reminded me that I still need to visit Portobello Road as I've been a Londoner for four years I've still never been. Even though I know it's my sort of place. I definitely need to rectify this asap! Great photos too!

ReplyDeleteI totally get sensory overload at Portobello Market - it can be overwhelming, especially on very busy weekend days, but it's fun regardless! (I once had a haircut scheduled for mid-afternoon on a Saturday at a salon right on Portobello Road, and I was almost 30 minutes late because I couldn't fight my way through the crush of tourists!)
I am so jealous, I have always wanted to go shopping on Portabello Road. I dream of owning a huge collection of mismatched antique silver.
ReplyDeleteI love Notting Hill! It's one of my favourite places in London and I can spend way way too much there. I just wish I had a permanent house sometimes so I could fill it with antiques :) I'm going to have to make a trip there this time.

ReplyDeleteI love Notting Hill! My first experience with the Portobello Market was crazy. I insisted that I needed to see it on our first visit to London {the movie may have had something to do with it} but my husband was not as keen as I was to go. When we arrived {on a Saturday} we were shocked at the volume of people ~ it was wild. We could barely move but I pushed my way through to get a crepe {the smell of them in the air was intoxicating} I arose from the crowd to meet back up with my husband victorious and proud to have my crepe and then I noticed that it was completely burnt on one side. Such a let down. We walked around an looked at everything but it was complete sensory overload. I have since been back quite a few times. I love the atmosphere and all the silver ~ fun!

ReplyDeleteI've wanted to go to Portobello Road since seeing Bed Knobs and Broomsticks as a child! I love pedestrian streets and markets where each booth has something different to offer.
