Monterey Rocks!

Ronan and I have returned from our 4th of July trip to Monterey. Here is a recap of our trip:

Thursday, June 30th, 2005:
We volunteered to take a later flight from Tucson and received over $400 in travel vouchers. Awesome, right? But our flight from San Diego was delayed because the plane was coming from Phoenix and there was some sort of car chase in the airport there. But we made it to San Jose and caught the airbus to Monterey. On the shuttle we met an Army wife whose husband is training to be an Arabic linguist. We caught a taxi to Persidio and checked into our room at the post lodging. We forgot to bring our mobile, but Ryan was able to get in contact with us and surprised us at our room. He was dressed in his BDUs because he was doing "casuals". It was our first time to see him in that uniform, and we were so proud to see our soldier!

Friday, July 1st, 2005:
Tonight we went to see Star Wars Ep. 3 at the base theater. I got to meet Ryan's friend from BMT, Airman Hobart (Rob). I think Ronan really liked the movie. Though he didn't cry, he was very talkative through out some of it. I guess he gets this from me. I really try not to talk through movies....But its hard!

Saturday, July 2nd, 2005:
I went to the housing office today at La Mesa and came back to the hotel by noon, having signed a lease to our first home! It was the only house available and actually in the pay grade above Ryan's. It is a duplex about as big as our old apartment, but it has 3 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. Outside it looks like the old army housing that it is. Inside, it looked really clean and I know I can make a wonderful home out of it. It also had a lot of storage and wonderful big windows in the living room. We can see the water outside our house, though we don't have a great view like Hobart's. It is our new home and I cannot wait to move in!

Today Ryan was in a parade at Seaside. The 40 something airmen who just arrived to Persidio, were volunteered to march in it. They were all awarded a day of being phased up. As phase 2, they were allowed to either wear civilian clothes on base and drink or go off base and wear their blues. Though most of them drank all day long up at the PX, Ryan and I went to see our new home and then went downtown. We found two British pubs, a British store, an Italian restaurant, and a movie theatre that has been renovated and plays old movies. They were playing the "Attack of the 50 ft. Woman" and "Them" today but they also play Hitchcock movies too.

Sunday, July 3rd, 2005:
Ryan took us the the protestant worship service at the base chapel. The service was nice and I really liked the chaplain and his sermon. Ronan really liked the music and he did pretty well during service. It was awesome when we walked out of church though. As we walked down the stairs the sun hit us right in the eyes. Most of the time in it has been really cloudy and cold. But at this moment it was bright, sunny, and clear. The bay was gorgeous!

Monday, July 4th, 2005:
Happy 4th of July! Today we went to the BBQ at the base ball diamond. I met a few other airmen and Ronan got a lot of compliments. We ended up watching the fireworks from the balcony of the hotel, but still had a great view. One of the other guests had the audio commentary/music from a local tv station on in the background as the fireworks went off. Ronan really liked the display of light in the sky!

Tuesday, July 5th, 2005:
Ronan and I spent the night at Hobart's house with his wife, Tyanna. She is expecting twins in December. We had a really great time and watched Serendipity. It was really nice to hang out with someone who is also a new USAF wife.

Wednesday, July 6th, 2005:
Tyanna, Ronan, and I had waffles for breakfast and then went to the Verizon store. We waited to hear from our husbands and then went Persidio to find them. Ronan and I got to spend about 30 minutes with Ryan before heading off to catch our shuttle back to San Jose. We had a really great time in Monterey with Ryan and we cannot wait to move ASAP!
